This year we are implementing a new Kindergarten through 5th Grade English Language Arts Curriculum, Amplify CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts). This is a comprehensive curriculum that aims to build a strong foundation in literacy and knowledge. It differs from many other programs by emphasizing both foundational skills and rich content knowledge. Students learn to read through a systematic approach to phonics and phonological awareness, which ensures they master the building blocks of language. At the same time, they engage with complex topics in history, science, and literature through read-alouds and student readers. This dual focus helps children not only decode words but also comprehend complex texts by building their background knowledge and vocabulary. The curriculum is designed to be highly engaging, with stories and activities that capture children's imaginations and make learning fun and meaningful.Implementation of a new curriculum is a big undertaking for our teachers.
