MSD TK-5 Report Cards
Updated K-5th grade Report Cards for 2025-2026: This year the Moraga School District is rolling out an updated Kindergarten through Fifth grade report card. The report card update is the culmination of several years of work by our teachers. Although we engage students in learning all the California Common Core Standards some standards are more essential than others. In 2023-2024 grade level teams identified the essential standards at each grade level. These are the standards we will deeply teach and assess. Last year grade level teams adjusted the report card to reflect the essential learning at each grade level. The purpose of a student's report card is to inform parents of their child's progress in mastering subject area standards.
The primary changes are to the Learning Targets and the model for determining a student's Proficiency Mark:
- Learning Targets: The report card learning targets are based on the essential learning of the grade level and are now written in clear "I can" statements. This is a powerful way to communicate student learning by focusing on what your child is able to do, providing clear, positive, and actionable feedback linked directly to learning standards.
- End-of-Year Proficiency: Student proficiency is now reported based on their end-of-year proficiency for each learning target. This means the teacher is considering your child's expected mastery of the learning target by the conclusion of the academic year. Moving to this model allows for more natural, ongoing assessment.
General Report Card Information: An important element in improving our children's learning is being clear about what students are expected to learn.  In 2010, California adopted the Common Core State Standards for ELA and Math.  These standards are rigorous and ask students to gain a deeper understanding of content and theory, then apply these standards to college and career skills needed for success into the 21st Century.
Teachers will report a student's progress on a trimester basis, and identify areas of strength and also what can be done to improve learning. Additionally, the report card will continue to report a student's progress and effort in the other subject areas.
Please discuss with your child's teacher any concerns you may have regarding progress towards grade level achievement expectations.
