About the Governing Board

Janelle Chng - Board President - Term Expires December 2024

Janelle is in her second term on the Board, after first starting her service in May 2019. Education has always been a passion for her, starting with her own educational experience where she was inspired by many amazing educators and administrators. She has spent over a decade volunteering in the Moraga School District, including on the LP PTA Executive Board from 2014 to 2019. During her time there she was involved in a wide variety of activities including organizing Room Parents, creating the LP yearbook, chairing the LP Science Fair, serving as Communications Chair, and finally culminating her service as PTA President for two years. In addition, she has served on the Committee for Measure V in 2016, chaired the community canvassing efforts for Measure M in 2020 and served on the MEF Communications Committee.

Janelle grew up in Minnesota, where she received her undergrad, and later moved to Arizona and completed her MBA at the University of Arizona. She works in Finance at Saint Mary's College of California. Janelle and her husband David have lived with their children in Moraga since 2011. Their two children both attended LP and are currently students at JM and Campolindo. In her spare time, she loves a good podcast, enjoys cooking, and is an avid gardener. She and her family are also actively involved in volunteering with ALS Golden West to continue the work to support current patients, advocate, and support research to find a cure for ALS.

Kristin is a labor and employment attorney working at a San Francisco-based company.  She came to California after graduating from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, where she met her husband, Neil.  Originally from southeastern Massachusetts, California's sunny shores summoned her to leave behind the snowy winters and she loves living in the semi-rural Moraga community.  Kristin and Neil have two boys, ages 7 and 4.  Their older son attends Los Perales Elementary School, where Kristin is active in the PTA; their younger son will begin kindergarten in 2024.  Kristin also enjoys engaging in various pro bono activities in her legal capacity, where she has served as a board member for San Francisco Suicide Prevention Agency, and represented clients in domestic relations cases and youth seeking refuge in the U.S. under federal immigration law.

Richard Severy has been a member of the Moraga Governing Board since 2016. He has volunteered on parcel tax and bond campaigns, serving as co-chair of Moraga’s successful Measure V bond campaign in 2016 which resulted in essential upgrades and modernization projects in Moraga schools.
