Overview of the
School Accountability Report Card (SARC)

Information about the requirements and contents
of the School Accountability Report Card.
 

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires each state to produce an annual report card that summarizes assessment results of students statewide and disaggregated by student subgroup. Information must also be included on high school graduation rates, teacher qualifications, other indicators used in each state’s definition of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), and the AYP status of all schools and districts in the state.

The School Accountability Report Card contains data for the following categories:

California Standards Test Results
  • English-Language Arts for grades two through eight, and ten
  • Mathematics for grades two through eight, and ten
Academic Performance Index (API)
  • Actual API compared to the API goal
  • Actual high school graduation rate compared to the graduation rate goal
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
  • AYP status of local educational agencies and schools
  • Program Improvement status of schools
Teacher Qualifications
  • Type of teaching credential
  • Teacher education level
  • Core academic courses taught by highly qualified teachers
